KAGOYA MARGARET
Margaret is 68 years old and she is a widow. She has seven children; three girls and four boys. The eldest child is 49 years and the youngest is 20 years old. Kagoya is a farmer and also she rears goats and local chicken at her home. She has been in the arts and craft group since the beginning of the program.
In this group she is among the most-skilled. Margaret is also a good mobilizer and she works closely with Betty and Violet. She has a strong team spirit for the FAF program and she motivates other women to work hard and transform their
lives through engaging in FAF programs in Bubago. In the absence of Betty and Violet, Kagoya monitors and supervises all FAF project programs and reports to the FAF admin and supervisor.
Margaret appreciates C2U for bringing FAF programs to Bubago because it has helped her to interact with other women. She says, “Before FAF came, I used to be so lonely at home since all my children are grown up and don’t stay with me. Now I have time to interact with other people, make friends, and learn new skills. This has killed my boredom and lonely life,. Now I can make myself busy.”
In this program, she has been able to acquire new skills. For example, she has been making trivets in different colors and sizes. Margaret has been saving the funds she gets in compensation and she has been able to renovate her house. Now it looks good!
Now she has an order for 50 trivets and she hopes after selling them in the craft shop in Jinja town, she will be able to buy glass and fix her windows and doors.
Margaret says, “I have acquired new skills through FAF and I am able to make a lot of things. I earn money because of these skills. Before C2U came to Bubago, I was in several women empowerment groups in the community but C2U is unique in its nature because they teach me new skills. Though I am aged, I am thankful that FAF welcomed me and recruited me. It is such a blessing.”
