Jonathan Odur is the eldest of three children. His parents divorced approximately five
years ago, and since then, both have been absent from the children’s lives. Shortly
after the separation, Jonathan’s mother brought him and his siblings to his
grandmother and left for an unknown destination. To date, even the grandmother
does not know where her daughter went, nor has she received any communication or
support from her.
The children’s father is also unreachable, leaving the grandmother as their sole
caregiver. Despite her age and limited means, she is deeply committed to ensuring
her grandchildren receive an education. To support them, she digs for people in the
community, earning small amounts of money that she uses to pay for their school
fees.
However, her earnings are insufficient to cover the full cost of education for all three
children. As a result, Jonathan and his siblings are frequently sent home from school
for unpaid fees, missing valuable class time, and falling behind in their studies.
