BABIRYE MARGARET
This information was provided by Betty, the Far Away Friend coordinator in Uganda
Babirye Margaret is 38 years old and is married to Mukisa Rogers who is 44 years old. Together they have 6 children. The eldest is 19 years old and he is in senior four at Magogo Secondary school. The youngest is 6 years old.
Margaret enrolled in the third group of the FAF tailoring project. In this tailoring group, Margaret acquired skills which help her to provide basic needs for her family and so she can be self-reliant. She is thankful that now she can
support her family. She started her tailoring business at her home.
Babirye is a multi-talented woman because she is a farmer, tailor, and very good at arts and craft making. She teaches her friends how to make different designs of art and craft items and they are sold at the market in Jinja.
Margaret prays that once her business grows, she will start to move to different local markets, marketing and selling her tailoring products. In this festive season, she is receiving customers interested in different kinds of fashions and styles of
clothes and this has changed her life.
She is very thankful to the FAF program because she has acquired different skills in tailoring and arts
and crafts. These skills include making paper beads, basket making, taking measurements, sewing clothes, among others. She is happy that she can design clohtes for customers according to their preferences.
She says, “Before joining FAF, I didn’t have any skills in tailoring or in making crafts. But now I am well equipped and I use those skills to earn a living. With the money I am compensated, I bought myself a goat and a pig to improve on my income. I am so thankful.”
