Returning to Africa for the third time felt like coming home. Each visit deepens my connection with the village and the people who have become like family.
One of the most heartwarming moments this time was when a young boy I had read with last summer found me as soon as I got off the bus—his face lit up with excitement, and he couldn’t wait to read with me again. Every day we returned to the village, he was there waiting for me, ready to pick up where we left off.
I also spent cherished time with my NBS student, Rashida. Her bright spirit and determination never fail to inspire me, and being with her always brings me joy.
This trip also brought new experiences, including my first visit to the village of Orem. Exploring a new community and beginning to understand what the next steps might look like there was incredibly exciting.
Another unforgettable part of this journey was meeting my far-away friend Santa. Our time together was filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep sense of connection—made even more special when she gifted me a chicken, a gesture of kindness I’ll always treasure. These relationships and shared experiences continue to shape my perspective and fuel my passion for this work.
