Eveline is Naomi’s older sister, the firstborn in a family of two. Her father suffers from a severe mental health condition that prevents him from working or supporting the family. This left Eveline’s mother overwhelmed, and she eventually divorced him and returned to her parents’ home.
 
Since then, Eveline and Naomi have been cared for by their grandmother. Despite her age and limited resources, the grandmother has taken responsibility for raising both children. She works as a peasant farmer, selling small amounts of food to cover their basic needs. However, her income is far too modest to consistently pay school fees for two children. Eveline’s education has been disrupted, and her future is at risk.
