Naomi is the second-born in a family of two children. Her father suffers from a severe mental health condition that impairs his ability to function or maintain meaningful employment. As a result, the family’s stability collapsed, and Naomi’s mother eventually divorced him and returned to her parental home.
 
Naomi and her sister were left in their grandmother's care. Despite her age and limited means, the grandmother has taken responsibility for raising the children. She works as a peasant farmer, selling small amounts of food to provide for their basic needs. However, her income is far too modest to cover school fees consistently. This has made it difficult for Naomi to attend school regularly, threatening her education and prospects.
